About Rajani Balaram
The main goal in my art is to create a mood using bold color, shapes and textures. The subject of a painting often becomes secondary and I feel I have a “successful painting” when the mood resonates with the viewer. I work in both watercolor and acrylics. I love watercolor because of its unique nature. It has both luminosity and vibrancy of color and breaking away from the traditionally expected use of watercolor allows me to explore rich colors and effects that can bring exciting atmosphere to any painting. I continue to polish my drawing skills. I find the greatest pleasure in drawing people. Drawing the human figure and portraits and telling their stories is most challenging but also most satisfying. I have also been experimenting with water media collage and finding ways to incorporate unique textures in my paintings using collage papers which I have colored. For me, the process of creating art is as important and as satisfying as the finished piece of art.
