I paint with vigor, immediacy, and bold, colorful surfaces. I am not trying to match the obvious colors that I see, but instead try to find the emotional context of the subject. I feel that I have a strong personal connection to the subject matter, particularly when painting people. I hope that a depth of feeling comes out in my paintings."
