About Eunice Chan
Growing up painting watercolor, I admired two young English watercolorists: Thomas Girtin and Richard Parkes Bonington. As I grew in skills and vision as a result of my classical training, I became drawn to the old masters. Artists who had most influence on my work are: Diego Velasquez, Caravaggio, Juan Cotan Sanchez, and John Singer Sargent, However, I venture beyond the traditional academic approach to art, and explore other areas. I am intrigued by mood, and the sense of time and space. These are elements that I like to interpret in my paintings. Also I like to explore the effect of perception: what one sees and what one imagines. This fine line is linked with the dream state, all related to the psychological make-up of the human mind.
