About Phyllis Anne Jenkins

Bio: Phyllis Anne (Jenkins) studied fine art at universities in Kansas and Colorado, later earning a master’s degree in counseling psychology. A practicing psychotherapist and full time artist, her work embodies the triumph of overcoming obstacles, dreamy afternoons, reaching for the stars, quiet reflections, the lively spirit of dance and theater, and a certain urban grunge connected to all life. She left a studio/gallery in Campbell, California to join artists at Alameda ArtWorks; there she occupies Studio 14.

Artist Statement: Sparked by an idea or dream, I enter the creative arena and ‘let go. Then almost trance-like, the dream guides my heart and hand in reflecting the dream. Finished work triggers the viewer’s own deep responses. At best, the art acts as a Rorschach creating a conversation between image and viewer which then ignites a deeper personal story, maybe something left behind or something ready to be discovered. I like the quotation: ‘While creating, artists are literally out of their minds’
