Susan grew up drawing, painting, and sculpting with her artist father and sisters. Recently she has focused on plein air and urban sketching, as well as watercolor painting in the studio. For Susan, painting is a way to practice mindfulness, draw attention to social and environmental issues, and to share her experience and love of nature with others. Her work ranges from simple line drawings and still life and animal studies to landscapes and abstract creations. She also enjoys designing art quilts and mosaics.
Susan studied Art and Spanish at Muhlenberg College in the 1980s. After retiring from teaching elementary school, she began painting in earnest in the spring of 2017. She has studied watercolor painting under the instruction of Zoya Scholis, Mike Bailey, and Carol Carter. Susan is a member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Association and the California Watercolor Association.
