About Julie Bovee

Julie Bovee guides her life and her art by the standard of happiness. Inspired by nature, flowers and her native California garden, she uses bold colors, abstract elements and contrasts to bring a depth to her pieces that highlight the discoveries that delight her.

Painted loosely and intuitively, her works develop on the canvas using unusual tools. She works primarily in acrylic with mixed media for effect. Julie creates many of the tools she uses to make her unique marks. Look closely and you might see the visual effects of applying drywall joint tape, roofing nails, or a broken bamboo skewer. Join Julie for the Open Studio tour, where she'll display some of her homegrown art tools and offer brief demonstrations surrounded by a vibrant art ecosystem.

Self-schooled by her lifelong interest in art and influenced by classes with local artists, Julie is new to the art world. Her colorful life includes a stint as a software engineer in Silicon Valley, traipsing cross-country selling farm supplies, and time in the Midwest in newspaper composition and desktop publishing (where she discovered her affinity for computer programming). Julie's art is on display in her studio at the School of Visual Philosophy in San Jose, California.
