About Susan Grabowski

Paintings • Giclee Prints • Notecards • Beaded Jewelry

Susan Grabowski is an award-winning NJ-born artist who spent 22 years on Cape Cod before making her way to the San Francisco Bay Area. She captures the fleeting moments in her light-filled paintings in the California plein air style. Susan is new to the Silicon Valley Open Studios, but a veteran in Marin County, participating in 6 Open Studios, 6 Marin County Fair exhibitions, and in single and group exhibitions, "paint-out" events, and 3 Italian Street Painting Festivals in San Rafael. Susan will exhibit paintings in oil, pastel, and acrylic, limited edition giclee prints, and notecards. She also makes beaded jewelry and will have an assortment available for purchase.
Artists's Statement:
"I like color, and the smell of oil paint, and disappearing into the concentration of rendering in paint something that excites me visually. I can't really say why I am compelled to create. I have come to accept the ride without asking about the destination. Some days the paint flows easily and the painting seems to paint itself. I never really know when that will occur. I enjoy painting on location (en plein air), and many of my paintings are completed just about entirely while in front of the subject. I have learned that a painting done on location can evoke a memory more potently than a photo or postcard, so I carry my supplies when I travel, hoping to find the time to paint. Not every session produces a good painting, but I usually learn something, so I keep at it."
