I was born in Kansas City Mo. and moved to California when I was 14 and studied art at the Richmond Art Center, my first formal class was taught by David Park. I had my first show at the age of 19 at the Ware Gallery in North Beach, S.F. where Joan Brown was a neighbor. I studied architecture at U.C. Berkeley and the University of Hawaii, and eventually earned a Masters in Fine Art from San Jose State University in 1969.
I opened my architectural and interior design offices in Saratoga in 1979, with my wife Cindy, an ASID designer. We are now Rockwood Design Assoc., Inc. located in Los Gatos, with my son and daughter in law both graduate Architects at the helm.
My paintings have been shown in various furniture showrooms and I am represented by Johanna Spillman in San Francisco. I was a few years too late for the California Abstract Expressionists, but closer to the Figurative movement, therefore my early works and my MFA were in the human figure in water based media. I try to express in my paintings both figurative abstraction and the non- representational, the unity that exists in nature and spirit.
