Storyline is a unique art exhibition where the lines on which cloth hangs intersect with the stories that lie just beyond our view.
The idea for this show came about while traveling in Costa Rica. I looked for a way to capture the essence of this experience. At first I painted the landscapes, but while those paintings were beautiful, they did not fully capture the life and the culture around me. On the last day of our trip, as I was strolling down the beach, I noticed a clothesline and colorful cloth hanging to dry. This simple scene ignited my interest and imagination. I imagined the life of the people to which these clothes belong, and in turn this triggered an association between the clothesline and the lines of stories that connect us all.
The last two years I continued drawing on my experiences while traveling the world and on world affairs, and found different ways to integrate the untold stories that connect us all in my work.
This exhibition is a personal road map showing my research and innovation with different kinds of art materials. I started this journey with oils and classic techniques. Following a surgery on my right shoulder I started working with acrylic and mixed media. These days I leverage my understanding of both new and old in my art.
I invite you to unravel the tapestry of life represented by this show, and identify the different materials and methods I used to create “Storyline”.
