Deborah Ikeda
My second life began in 2001 with classes in jewelry fabrication, metalsmithing, and lost-wax casting. I realized I’m a lifelong learner and a 3-D (3-dimentional) person. Color, natural forms and how they occupy space and how texture creates depth attract me.
In 2009, I took my first kiln-formed or “warm” glass class. I was so “hooked,” I bought a big used kiln. My resulting glass work combines color and form – colored glass is fused together in the kiln, then formed using molds, some made by me. Organic asymmetry as well as ocean and Japanese themes prevail in my pieces.
