Susie Idzik

The act of viewing a painting is an entirely original experience and is a moment of recollection. I ask that the viewer bring their own story to my work rather than to merely interpret my story. In other words, I strongly encourage viewers tomake of my work what they will in relating it to their own life story.

I am currently working on a series of California landscapes. My recent work has included a series of “floorplans” depicting the over 27 houses and apartments in which I have lived. By unearthing the moment in time that
defines each home for me, I defined my life story in a series of expressionist blueprints. Having had so many addresses in so few years (that’s about one home every 1.6 years) memories of my life are clearly marked by where I lived.

I received my BA in Clay from Tulane University. I have shown in Galleries in New Orleans and San Francisco. I have lived in the Bay Area for the past 30 years and have participated in Open Studios numerous times. I currently live in Palo Alto, CA.
