My art is an exploration of materials and emotion. It changes depending on the mood I’m in and what’s happening around me. Currently, my main focus is painting although I’m also very drawn to including other materials like textiles, clay, wood and found objects. I’ve been exploring small wall sculptures and paintings on shaped panels. No matter what medium I’m using, I don’t usually plan a piece. I start out in "play" mode and let the piece evolve.
I tend to pack my paintings with layers of color and pattern. My palette is hot and tropical, like the Philippines where I grew up. I also like to use black, which no doubt comes from years of watching my mother practice Chinese brush painting. I strive to find balance between order and manic energy. Discipline and chaos. Beauty in texture and grit.
My work is at Epperson Gallery in Crockett, CA. I’m represented by Jen Tough Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
