Michael Rosenthal is an art collector, gallerist, and visual artist with a notable career spanning over five decades.
Artist’s Statement
Michael Rosenthal (1946, Brooklyn, United States)
Michael Rosenthal’s paintings link the landscape’s reality and his imagination.
By contesting the division between the realm of memory and the world of experience, Rosenthal synthesizes color and form to reimagine a landscape rather than presenting a factual reality.
His self-portraits and landscapes appear idiosyncratic and quirky; at other
times, they seem typical by-products of American superabundance and marketing.
As an artist, he can easily imagine his interpretation without being hindered by historical
reality. By rejecting objective truth and global cultural narratives, he investigates dynamics and
challenges the imagination by examining ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations.
Michael Rosenthal currently lives and works in San Jose.
