As a native Californian and resident of San Mateo, I revel in painting coastal scenes that change with the seasons. The varied light, the often fog-infused atmosphere and the graceful silhouettes of natural landmarks make for sweeping compositions. Additionally, children full of wonder at the vastness of the waves, butterflies offering us hope with their return to the Natural Bridges, and birdlife amongst the shore comprise more subjects of inspiration.

I seek to reveal form, mood and light in captured moments. I experiment with color temperature and value contrasts. I carefully crop my subjects in their setting so as to tell a story. I often add bright colors and expressive brush strokes to give punch to the narrative.

I paint commissioned dog, cat and other pet portraits. I also paint people. Noah Buchanan is my mentor art instructor. What a privilege to catch the eyes of my subjects and give their gaze back to you in a painting. I hope that you will check out my website: carriegovanskelly.com
