Mariya Vladymyrova
Mariya Vladymyrova is a Ukrainian artist and graphic designer who came to the USA with her two children in 2022 to escape the war in Ukraine.
“The greatest value I find in art is expressing what cannot be put into words. My works convey emotions and sensations more than visual beauty. I love to layer meanings within visual images so that viewers make discoveries, “unwrapping” the picture layer by layer, exploring details, and immersing themselves infinitely into what they see.
My journey as an artist began in childhood. While reading magical tales and adventures, my vivid imagination painted fantastical scenes that begged to be brought to life on paper. I studied illustrations in books and created my own, which more accurately expressed my personal impressions and emotions. This passion led me to pursue a formal Fine Art education at university.
However, after graduating, I became captivated by graphic design — a field which became a space for experimentation and discovery for over 20 years. Though I never abandoned illustration and drawing, they became more of a hobby.
Everything changed in 2022 when I left behind my cherished home, friends, and beloved work to protect my two children from the dangers of war, finding safety and refuge in California. Over time, drawing became my solace. This was my personal therapy, path to acceptance, and entry into reality.
Unexpectedly, I discovered that my art pieces resonated with many. People around me found a deep connection with my somewhat magical, somewhat naive, but completely sincere paintings as if they were an extension of their skin.
I invite you to take a look at my work, and I hope that you find something that speaks to you."
