About Nancie Crowley
After receiving my BA in Art from San Diego State University I continued postgraduate work at Arizona State University and UCLA, then completing my Master of Arts in Fine Art at San Jose State University. My emphasis has always been the figure especially when working on large oils in my “Treehouse Studio.” While professionally teaching Life Drawing for many years, as well as Painting the Clothed Figure, I began to use gouache watercolor pigment to achieve the saturated color play on paper I love. I work quickly, without an under drawing. Filling the brush with paint I enjoy seeing strong compositions taking shape. Gradually, as I began traveling internationally, my best adventures in paint have included more villagescapes and landscapes plus contour line drawing.
The highly acclaimed architect Sim Bruce Richards AIA, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed our home 50 years ago. Richards of San Diego created my art studio by collaborating with internationally renowned San Diego artist James Hubbell. Their masterful design incorporates stained glass windows and door, hand carved wooden supports, all with expansive views of SF Bay and Silicon Valley below. I have loved opening my studio to the public, exclusively for SVOS exhibits, for the past 25 years.
My most recent award was SF MOMA’s “Best of Show” at the City of Los Altos’ Bay Area satellite exhibit.
