In a world filled with high tech gadgets and apps, I find traditional art materials more satisfying to use. The tactile, deliberate properties of paper, graphite, and colored pencil allow me to capture fine details and subtle colors. I aim to engage the viewer in a longer, closer look to see the beauty in the details of my subjects, and learn my subject’s story or see a visual metaphor. I want them to remember it the next time they encounter it in life, and appreciate more of the world around them. I am a realist and I work from my own reference photos, but I take liberties to create my vision of a scene.

I am the author of “101 Textures in Colored Pencil” (Walter Foster Publishing, 2017). My work has won awards in regional, national and international exhibitions. I have been featured in International Artist Magazine, had work included in the De Young Open, and won 3rd Place in Artists Magazine’s International Strokes of Genius competition. I am ten-year merit Signature Member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, a Gold Signature Member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society, and am currently the national president of the CPSA.
