Creating art has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. Because my parents recognized my interest, and perhaps some natural ability, they enrolled me in classes at a young age. My first serious training began at The Wheeler School in Providence, RI, where I was accepted into their Art Major program. I was privileged to participate in this three year program that met 5 days a week and required at least 5 hours a week of additional creating at home. One of the highlights of this program was the double period on Wednesdays when we had a live model for studying figure drawing. This was where I learned the joy of creating within a community of artists. My teachers tried to persuade me to apply to art school for college, but instead I chose Tufts University where I could study art under professors from the Boston Museum School of Art while also pursuing other academic interests. This, in the end, lead me to graduate school at the College of Notre Dame for a dual degree as Marital Family and Child Therapist and Clinical Art Therapist.
There is nothing quite as amazing as becoming completely immersed in the creative process, when time and even body seem to disappear. In the last 21 years, in which I have been raising my 3 children, uninterrupted time for my art has been hard to come by.
I am now the parent of college age children and I finally have time to dedicate myself to my development as an artist. I joined Art Bias in February 2022, an amazing community of artists. Each time I enter another artist’s studio it sparks a new idea or I learn about a new technique. Since joining, I have been pushing myself to try new techniques and styles.
