Kay Fontana
My inspiration comes from nature. I become attracted to patterns or a moment when light has revealed the beauty of color or natural form. The art I create is expressing my experience of that moment. I abstract the elements I’m attracted to and use them as personal symbols in my work.
My latest body of work layers acrylic color on wood panels to create depth and movement. My monotypes use photo plates, embossing and many other techniques. Experimentation and invention drive my work.
I moved to the Bay Area in 1972 after studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and The Kansas City Art Institute. My work is in collections nationwide including Apple Computer, Kaiser Hospital, Silicon Graphics and Mager Scientific of Dexter, Michigan.
