JUDY RUCKER – Mixed Media, Sustainable Art
Textile art has always been a passion, and tying in nature with 3-D effects a longtime goal. There is something about the natural shapes, rich mahogany, and variegated colors and crenelations of native manzanita, madrone, and grapewood that cannot be replicated. As an architectural enthusiast, you have to ask, “Why mess with mother nature?” I strive, rather, to enhance its natural state in 3-D structures that break the rules of planar geometry and, instead, leap from the frame.
The materials are all natural and sustainably sourced, using preserved moss and botanical pieces which require no watering, while retaining their color. Hiking and foraging in the oak-madrone ecosystems yields meandering manzanita and madrone tree branches which are incorporated in most pieces, as is other natural foliage, each designed to bring natural beauty indoors.
About the Artist
Judy is a native Northern Californian, as such, she is a nature-lover by practice and previously a tech manager by trade. Art has always been a part of her family, from a grandmother who painted and panned for gold in the high Sierras, to a daughter who is a jewelry designer, and doodlers of every sort in between.
