Moeko MACHIDA
Moeko MACHIDA
I explore the secret of the beauty of living beings in this world, depicting the ever-changing life, despite our finite existence.
Since last winter, I have been based in the Bay Area, creating paintings using Japanese traditional mineral pigments.
I am deeply impressed by the beauty, strength, and existence of all living things. The round, stone-like shapes that appear in my paintings represent not only the living but also the presence of the dead.
In the process of traditional Japanese painting, it is highly important to discern the essence of the subject’s motif. I have followed this approach, my inspiration from attentive observations of nature, such as trees, wind, water, insects, and animals, and by listening to my body and thoughts through daily meditation and physical exercises.
I hope that through my artworks, more people can feel the richness and beauty of life, and spend a mindful appreciation of the world with a constantly fresh perspective.
