While I’m a classically trained master stone carver, as an artist and sculptor I work in a variety of materials to express my conceptually driven ideas in novel sculptural form, experimenting with texture, materials, color, or interactive elements. I try to realize the potential of art as my unique, vital contribution to society.
Observing the natural world and mystery of transformation inspires me. I’m fascinated by a harmony of contradictions between chaos and order, light / darkness, good / bad, etc. I explore how they’re interconnected, can stay in balance, and how the meaning of thought or beauty can take shape in physical form.
Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, I now live in East Palo Alto, CA. As a resident of Silicon Valley I live in accelerating times between cutting-edge technological progress and concerns about its impact on the environment and our future. As human beings increasingly dominate nature, we need always to remember that we are a part of it.

Pixel
The tiny pixel that transforms data and information into images can be seen as a visual symbol of the Digital Era and Silicon Valley.Artist Oleg Lobykin translated the pixel into sculptural form, an object with a twist. The stretched and twisted square fits a cube that creates a parabolic surface.In polished stainless steel, just like a mirror, it reflects reality to a degree. 90 degrees, to be specific the reflection of the surroundings is inverted. Approaching the piece, viewers will notice their own reflection transforms from the 90-degree inversion back to a normal reflection without the shift, in just a few steps right in the front of the object.
