Stacie Hibino is a part-time User Experience (UX) instructor and part-time potter. She uses custom-created 3D-printed texture rollers and custom-designed die-cut stencils to create collections of her pottery. She currently has three collections: a Hearts collection, a Waves collection, and a Mid-Century Modern collection. Stacie has presented two talks related to creating 3D-printed tools and die-cut stencils for pottery and has also given a workshop on using a 3D printer for pottery. Stacie does not use technology to define her work, but rather to enhance, augment, and personalize her work. With a background in UX, Stacie is always thinking about ways to improve the experience of making and using her pottery.
In addition to her pottery collections, Stacie also creates and sells other ceramic pieces using a variety of techniques and glazes — such as large bowls, carved votive holders, colorfully glazed vases, and more. In 2020, Stacie started her pottery business — Zen Shway Studio — and has been selling her pottery since July 2020. She has sold her pottery at San Jose’s Santana Row through the outdoor Makers Market, through San Jose Made, as well as other local venues. She makes wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery — mostly functional ware, with a few cute (“kawaii”) items as well. You can follow @zenshway on Instagram for her latest updates.
During SVOS, Stacie will display some works in progress. She will also give some short hand- building demos, if time permits.
