I became interested in art when I was a pre-teen. Although I started with a “paint by numbers” oil color paint set, I soon found that I didn’t want to stay within the lines nor use the assigned colors.
Majoring in art in high school gave me the opportunity to explore various mediums and to study art history. I included art courses while pursuing my Business degree at Indiana University. In 1998, I started to develop a new painting style. I was greatly influenced by the Fauve Landscape Art of 1904-1908. I find that the works of Andre Derain and Henri Matisse have influenced my style the most. I favor simplified compositions with bold complimentary colors. Many of my paintings have been described as good fabric patterns or stylized shapes. I work in watercolor, gouache, oil, and acrylic.
I have entered my art in various competitions. I have sold my art to private collectors in California, Arizona, New York, Florida, Hawaii, and Canada. I am actively involved with running the Half Moon Bay Plein Air Painters. Prior to that, I ran the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters in Kona, HI. I also serve on the Board of Directors at the Coastal Arts League, Half Moon Bay, CA
I have taken art classes at the following institutions: Indiana University, South Bend Art Center, Colorado Mountain College, Manhattan Beach Arts Foundation as well as many art workshops.
Most recently, I have exhibited my art in the following locations: Coastside Land Trust, Coastal Arts League Gallery, Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, Foster City Recreation Center, Los Altos Library, Palo Alto Art Center
