History is a series of overlaying stories. Some of them prevail, some fragment, while others get erased or forgotten. Often these stories are embedded all around us, in everyday objects. When historical context surrounding them is taken into consideration, these ubiquitous, seemingly decorative images, and objects become imbued with social meaning —historic, political and cultural weight transforms them into evidence of our past, lessons for the present and possibilities for the future. By investigating and composing with mass produced items, submitting them to the physical pressures of the printing press and/or other artistic transformations I seek to explore these complex cultural pressures that contribute to who we are today.
