Oscar Lopez
Oscar Lopez is a Mexican visual artist focusing on understanding the complex societies in the USA through an immigrant lens by analyzing art as social history, personal history, as covering and uncovering, forming and reshaping issues affecting immigrants, as we all are. As a bilingual individual, Oscar utilizes new and old mediums, materials, and techniques, such as mural-making in nontraditional materials, oil, acrylic, silverpoint, printmaking, drypoint, spray paint, airbrush, charcoal, ink, photography, and film as mix mediums to construct visual media as he seeks answers through research of the disenfranchised as humans and stigmas of immigrants and labor classes.
With bilingualism and now dual citizenship, Oscar creates a conversation in the two main branches of art he focuses on, for a gallery where access is limited or through public art to make a social practice and outreach and access to art for all. The discourse of topic, medium, substrates, and beholder is a principal goal since communication is the base of understanding, acceptance, and co-existence.
