Glen Richbourg
I began my woodworking journey in my teens, learning the basics of woodturning from my father. About 15 years ago, I rekindled my passion for woodturning in a more serious way. I use locally sourced wood, often destined for the fireplace, scrapyard, or woodchipper, which I acquire from friends, relatives, and neighbors. It fascinates me how, hidden within an ordinary chunk of wood, you can sometimes discover the most beautiful grain and figure.
I create simple and segmented bowls, vases, candlesticks, lidded boxes, acorn boxes, and salt and pepper shakers and grinders. Occasionally, I enhance my pieces with colored resins to add a pop of color or to provide structural strength.
In most cases, my turned pieces are more decorative than practical—so please, no breakfast cereals in my bowls!
