My current paintings evolve from a curiosity about relationships between people, dogs, and sometimes, landscape.
As a figurative artist, painting animals engages my love of anatomy and motion. The muscular cattle dog twists and leaps into the arms of its keeper, who is struggling for equilibrium. Dog walkers in parks, dog owners at play with toys and a variety of canines, dogs reacting to other dogs, offer visuals of lively and sometimes tense interchange. In a time of political and social
division, pets bring together strangers, and neighbors, who may not have connected in any other way. I observe, sometimes snap a photo, and construct compositions that probably reveal more about myself than those depicted.
