I endeavor to make kinetic sculptures using uniquely coated optics that expand the physical form of the piece to provide a colorful and complimentary reflective element to the space they occupy.
Inflection Point Mobiles
I have always been fascinated by the possibility of movement with a mobiles’ innate form. I recognized that coated optics would add a reflective as well as spectrally distinctive dimension to this kinetic medium. Creating these sculptures has been surprisingly therapeutic. I enjoy each portion of the process from concept sketches to machining and final installation. Let me show you how I make them. You’ll get a close look at the secrets of the floating jeweled pivot in my standing mobiles that utilizes ruby and sapphire components. There will also be demonstrations of the fulcrum springs used to adjust balance points.
Come when you can – optimal viewing time is from 5 – 7pm when all the reflections from the displayed mobiles flood our garden.
