Yuting Wang
I was born and raised in Beijing, China. I completed a four-year undergraduate study in Civil and Environmental Engineering in Israel before moving to the United States to obtain a master’s degree in the same field. Although I don’t hold a degree from an art institution, I developed my skills through rigorous classes and workshops with various renowned artists.
Early exposure to traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, along with an appreciation for classical and modern oil paintings, has been a major influence on my work. I strive to balance the expressive and the realistic, creating an ethereal yet tangible world. My multicultural background significantly shapes my artistic style and subject matter. It has fostered an openness and deep curiosity towards history, as well as seemingly conflicting perspectives and beliefs.
I am deeply intrigued by the mysteries of life—what it means to be human, our place on Earth and in time, and how we interact with our environment and other creatures. Although we possess the ability to sense and understand, our faculties are limited, leaving much of the vast unknown beyond our grasp. I am particularly drawn to the dynamics between opposing forces in nature, the mind, and society. My work reflects these observations and serves as a means of understanding both others and myself.
Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums. Its flowing and unpredictable qualities perfectly align with my pursuit of free and poetic expression, and allows me to explore the balance between spontaneity and control. I believe there is beauty when opposites unite and complement each other. The expressive brushstrokes are inspired by Chinese calligraphy; it’s as if I am writing without words. I use emotionally charged colors to convey unity amid diversity. By blending fantasy with reality, I explore alternative existences and reconcile dualities and paradoxes.
