Looking, touching, embracing form. I feel that creating a sculpture is like
solving that puzzle of expressing my perceptions and emotions without
words. Sculpting is both physically and mentally demanding. My direction has
evolved into a contemporary abstract style exploring human & organic
themes.
A past resident of Connecticut, Washington DC and Sonoma County, CA
I now live and work in Palo Alto. I grew up in New York City and the
Massachusetts’ Berkshire Hills surrounded and inspired by my father’s
(Frederick Leuchs) beautiful stained glass works and surrounded by
plaster maquettes by my deceased great uncle (sculptor Augustus
Lukeman). I studied mechanical engineering and art at Stanford
University and initially worked in the foreign manufacturing/design
division of Mattel Toys in CA until I moved to Greenwich, CT and was
introduced to stone sculpting. I then started working in plaster and
switched my medium to cast bronze. I have recently started casting my
work in glass. I exhibit in galleries across the country and online platforms.
Come see my work this spring in Saratoga.
