SVOS 2022 Our 36th Year Review
More new artists, more regional shows, and great media coverage make SVOS the Bay’s top art event!
Now that SVOS Spring 2022 has wrapped up, we’d like to thank all of you — both our visitors and artists — for bringing back the arts in full force after a two-year hiatus from our annual spring show!
The three-weekend art event, held May 7-8, 14-15, and 21-22, opened with sunny blue skies and plenty of visitors.
The first weekend featured our Coastal artists whose sites transformed the Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1) into an exciting art trail from Pacifica to La Honda.
Plenty of local media coverage, ranging from social media and advertising to news articles —as well as SVVA-supplied artist directories and signage — kept visitors coming to this first-ever coast side-focused show.
The following two weekends, featuring artists along the Peninsula and South Bay respectively, were also well received. Several thousand art lovers and event seekers toured artist sites from as far north as San Bruno all the way to Gilroy.
When we asked visitors how they found out about the SVOS Spring Show, the responses were spread fairly equally across the different news and social media coverage, the signage and directory, plus through prior knowledge of the show and word-of-mouth rave reviews.
Our 34th Year Review
SVOS2020 attracted more than 5,000 visitors. And while the show was held virtually due to COVID, it generated more than $11,600 in art sales, which helped support our artists as well as benefited a local non-profit food bank, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley.
In most years, Silicon Valley Open Studios hosts a physical event in May. Because of COVID-19, our SVOS2021 spring show will be held virtually on our brand new website at www.svos.org.
This is a great opportunity to see local artists’ work online—and in the comfort of your home to keep you Covid-safe. From May 1st – May 31st, you can view hundreds of artists who will showcase their latest work. And for this event, 15% of your art purchases will benefit DrawBridge, a non profit organization that provides children who are underserved or are experiencing homelessness an opportunity to build self-confidence and experience joy through expressive art
Whether physical or virtual, SVOS2021 will give you the chance to view and enjoy a vast variety of visual expression, including painting, mixed media, photography, sculpture, jewelry, calligraphy, ceramics, digital art, fiber arts, pottery, mosaics, metal work, glass, drawing, printmaking, watercolor, woodworking and many more unique and creative one-of-a-kind works of art.
Best of all, attending SVOS2021 is free to the general public, not to mention art enthusiasts, art collectors and investors, educators, and art students. So we invite you to participate and experience our thriving art community that is Silicon Valley!
You Don’t Need an Invitation
You can visit a Gallery of the artists and their work on the web site. Browse or purchase art by artist name or media type. Plus, connect with them via their contact information.
Silicon Valley Open Studios is non-juried, so it is more inclusive than many other art events or exhibits. Rather than have a committee judge what you can see, you be the judge of what you like. Being non-juried, it attracts many emerging and first-time artists who have chosen Silicon Valley Open Studios as their first exposure to the buying public. In fact, this is why many of Silicon Valley’s finest gallery owners and museum curators tour the event incognito searching for exciting new artistic talent.
A Different Event
Silicon Valley Open Studios, whether in person or virtual, has some distinguishing qualities:
- You can see a large body of work by many artists. Each artist is free to show what they do best – there is no jury committee. You are the juror of what is good, not someone else.
- Get to know the artists. They welcome interaction with visitors and are happy to talk about their art. Feel free to contact them by email, phone, or video chat.
- Discover some hidden artistic talent. Silicon Valley Open Studios is an incubator for young and emerging artists. Every year there are many artists showing for the first time. If you’re a collector, here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor.
- Begin your art collection and discover the next Picasso!
