Olga Munoz-Watercolor
Olga Munoz
My husband and I took our vacations seriously, we made sure to travel somewhere year after year, until we got our doggie and that slowed down. All the places we visited were so quaint, I always imagined myself living in those places, thinking of what my life as a local would be. It was during a walk on the beach after returning from one of those trips that I realized when we travel we see things through our travel eyes. We are in the moment, trying to capture it all as a spectator that wants to take everything in to remember it later.
That is when I began to look at things here at home with traveler eyes. Focusing on the beauty of the area, this is when the fauna, flora, the landscape of my coastal town became my muse.
Watercolor is my medium of choice at the moment. I love the flow of it, how it forces you to be in the moment, to take yourself less seriously as you are there to help the paint along not control it.
I see my work as capturing light. I play with values, negative space, mixing colors on the page. My previous work as a graphic designer makes me inclined to white space. I like to create paintings that focus on an object but let you create the story that accompanies it.
My personality pairs well with this medium, as I like to go with the flow, to be present enough to see the opportunities that surround us. One of these opportunities has been to teach watercolor in my gallery by the coast, I love to share this passion, and instill love of art making in others.
