Matthew Bien

Matthew Bien is a lifelong painter and photographer, painting in watercolors, acrylics and oils. His recent work has focused on plein air landscape painting on paper, as well as expressionistic figurative works on canvas.
Matt grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He studied art and art history at the University of Michigan, where he received a BA and an MBA. He has also studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, San Jose City College, and is a member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society.
Matt served as a medical services officer in the U.S. Air Force, then went into business, partnering in a cable advertising company in western Washington and a commercial recording studio in Seattle. In 2010 he sold his company and relocated to San Jose.
