The freedom and spontaneity – the “wet and loose”- of watercolor suits my temperament. My approach is not tight but “juicy” incorporating bright colors, broad strokes, and strong shapes to depict my impressions of the natural landscape, flowers and trees, foreign lands and exotic places. Most enjoyable to me is painting on location – “en plein air”. Inspiration for studio work comes from sketches and photos taken while walking, working in my garden, hiking in the wilderness or traveling in foreign lands.
Recent collage work utilizes an original technique of texturing oriental papers with watercolors. These papers are torn, arranged and collaged to create interesting abstract images. My paintings have been in numerous gallery shows and as well as in the Triton, Santa Cruz and Palo Alto Art Leagues.
You will find my work in Aegis Gallery, Saratoga and in my Virtual Gallery: www.kayduffywatercolors.com.
