Mark Monsarrat
Mark Monsarrat is a long-time plein-air and studio painter of traditional landscapes in oil. Seeking to capture the atmospheric mood of the landscape particular to Northern California, Mark paints in the tonal-colorist, Craftsman style. He is inspired by the 19th- century Romantics and the early 20th-century American and California Impressionists. With his technical and business background, Monsarrat is a true Renaissance Man, with five college degrees, including a BFA in Drawing from the California College of the Arts, an MFA in Painting from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, and numerous plein-air workshops with noted artists over the years.
Mark paints outdoors "en plein air" and in his Redwood City studio, garnering many awards at art shows and plein-air competitions, most recently First Places at Shelter Cove Plein Air, Alameda County Fair Plein Air, and “Scenic Roadways” Arts Council of Monterey, among many other awards. He also conducts his own classes, demonstrations and workshops. He has been represented by galleries around California and nationally.
